  • How do the Platinum Samples BFD Compatible Expansion Packs compare to the BFD Expansion Packs ?

The Platinum Samples Expansion Packs are recorded by some of the greatest engineers available. They EQ'd and processed the drums so that they sound great without much work. Just load their kits and mixers and they should be ready to go... with only minor adjustments to fit your tracks.

  • Do the Platinum Samples Expansion Packs & Grooves work with BFD2 & BFD3?

Yes, all the Platinum Samples Expansion Packs are fully compatible with BFD2 & BFD3.

  • Where should I install my Classic Drums and Evil Drums for use with BFD2 & BFD3?

If your DVD's have an older BFD1 logo on the DVD's, please download our Installation Instructions PDF file for details on where to install your Platinum Samples for use with BFD2 & BFD3. Otherwise please follow the instructions in the manual.

  • What format are the samples on the DVD ?

Currently the samples are available as an FXpansion BFD Compatible Expansion Pack.

The full version of BFD from FXpansion is required.

If you have BFD Lite, contact FXpansion for an upgrade to the full version of BFD.

BFD Compatible
  • What sample rate and bit depth were the samples recorded at ?

The Andy Johns & Jim Scott samples were recorded at 96kHz 24bit, the Joe Barresi samples were recorded at 88.2kHz 24 bit

  • What sample rate and bit depth are the samples on the expansion pack DVD's ?

The samples on the DVD are 44.1kHz 24bit

  • Can you feature my favorite engineer ?

Perhaps... Nominate them on the Home page and we'll try our best to feature them in the future.

  • How many dynamic levels do your samples have ?

The number of dynamic levels varies by drum sample -- some have as many as 256.

  • Do I really need to install over 70GB of data to use the Expansion Pack?

No. For each of the 6 DVDs supplied with the Classic Drums and Evil Drums expansion packs, you have the option of installing with one of four 'footprints': small (20 velocity layers), medium (40 velocity layers), large (128 velocity layers) and SuperSize (up to 256 velocity levels). The lower amount of velocity layers in Small and Medium installations result in less detail than a full installation, but require much less disk space. Small and Medium installations are also less heavy on resources when using the Platinum Samples Drums Kits and Kit-Pieces within BFD, because less RAM is required. Please refer to the manual about adjusting the Max Levels option in BFD.

  • I am having trouble installing Classic Drums?

If you're running OS X 10.3.9 then download this installer fix and follow the included directions.

There are no known manufacturing defects at this time. You cannot simply drag-'n-drop the BFD data from the DVDs as you could in previous expansion packs. Classic Drums has "BFD compressed audio" (bfdca) files in the DVDs to enable us to fit 70GB on 6 DVDs. The installer MUST be used to unpack the sounds into your BFD directory.

Support for the installer is handled through www.fxpansion.com

  • The Andy Johns Classic Drums Hihat gain is low... why?

To create a balance when using BFD in standalone, we created Tweak files for the Hihats -- to change, remove the tweaks.txt files in the Hihat folder(s) or change the tweak value in BFD.

  • BFD says I have an Invalid Serial Number?

Please download the latest version of BFD 1.5.46 (or later) from the FXpansion website.
BFD version 1.5.46 B10 is the "release" build.

  • Do you allow license transfers?

    Yes, however:
  • If you're the seller, you must contact us in advance of the sale at. If you're the prospective second-hand buyer, you must check that the seller is cleared to sell. If in doubt, contact us.
  • There is a flat $50 fee per product for a license transfer, which can be purchased from our online shop.
  • Review copies, NFRs (Not For Resale copies, sometimes used for in-store demos), etc., cannot be transferred under any circumstances.
  • We reserve the right to refuse a license transfer request. Many other companies charge a fee as well as forcing annoying copy protection (such as challenge/response, dongles, CD-checks etc.) on their paying customers. Several well known companies do not allow license transfers at all! Once a transfer is authorised and the fee has been paid, the new owner is entitled to exactly the same upgrade paths and technical support resources as if they had bought the product new.
  • Will you support other formats?

Yes, we will try to support all the major formats.

  • Where may I legally use the sounds/samples?

Please read our Legal page.

  • Do I have to credit Platinum Samples or the featured engineer when I use the Platinum Samples?

No, you are not legally required to credit Platinum Samples or the featured engineer... but don't let that stop you!

  • Do you have distributors outside the USA?
Yes, please check out our Distributor page.
  • Where can I buy your samples?
You can buy them either at our Online Store or at one of the US Dealers who carry our products. Outside the USA & Canada check out our International Distributors page.
